Playgrounds with Purpose: Connecting Schools and Communities

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at the Somerset Branch meeting for council clerks — and the conversation left me energised.

The topic? How we can create school environments that not only support learning but also become hubs of physical activityleadership, and community connection.

At Inspired Markings, we believe playgrounds should be more than painted lines on tarmac. They should have purpose.

Playgrounds with Purpose: Creating Active School and Community Spaces

💡 Our Vision

We want to create active schools that naturally feed into active communities — by designing playgrounds that do more than fill a space.

When we install games, trails, and purposeful markings, we’re not just thinking about break times. We’re thinking about:

  • Developing a lifelong love of physical activity
  • Building confidence and social skills
  • Creating opportunities for student leadership
  • Offering spaces that can also be used by local communities

Because when a child is excited to move, play, and engage… the ripple effects reach far beyond the school gates.

🔧 Our Approach in Action

Our projects include:

  • Trim Trails and Inspired Trails to guide structured movement
  • QuickHit Cricket, which blends PE, lunchtime activity, and team play
  • Community sessions run in partnership with schools and local leaders
  • Markings that are fun, inclusive, and built to last
  • Incentives to keep both pupils and communities engaged long term

And we always ask:

“How can this space serve not just the school, but the families and communities around it?”

🤝 A Collaborative Effort

The response at the Somerset Branch meeting was brilliant — proof that schools and councils do want to work together on sustainable, innovative, and inclusive solutions.

We’re excited to keep collaborating with councils, schools, and community leaders to make that vision a reality.
